This three-day 3B program travels beyond the best-known Beijing hiking sections to Chengde and the reservoir landscape around Panjiakou and Xifengkou. Its focus is cultural context and the meeting of fortifications and water, not a Jiankou–Mutianyu crossing.
The first day introduces Chengde, followed by travel to the reservoir region and a final return toward Beijing. Views, permitted walks and any boat arrangements depend on local access and water conditions. The phrase “underwater Great Wall” describes submerged remains; it does not mean that an ordinary tour includes diving or walking on flooded structures.
Travel from Beijing to Chengde and explore the cultural visits agreed in your proposal. Keep the first day realistic for the drive and arrival. The overnight stay positions you for the following journey toward the reservoir and Great Wall landscape rather than returning immediately to Beijing.
Leave Chengde for the reservoir landscape around Panjiakou and Xifengkou. Explore the permitted viewpoints and selected paths that make sense for the conditions. Any boat trip is separately confirmed; submerged masonry is a subject for interpretation, not an invitation to enter the water or unstable remains.
Use the morning for an agreed final perspective on the reservoir landscape, then begin the return to Beijing. Walking and photography stops depend on current access. Keep the road journey in view when planning any evening train or flight after the tour.
These are linked walking days with road transfers between regions, not a continuous trek along every surviving wall. Share your recent hiking experience, normal daily distance and comfort with steep descents. We agree the overnight sequence, luggage handling and the balance of inns and any confirmed camping before booking.
Jiankou includes restoration areas and restricted stretches. Neither this outline nor guide accompaniment guarantees entry or an open connection to Mutianyu. We confirm the permitted route for your date and explain any replacement walk or road transfer before booking. Closed sections are not bypassed.
It is a mixed cultural and landscape journey with road travel and selected walking. Tell us whether you want more walking or more time in Chengde before we finalize the balance.
