The most photogenic section of the Great Wall, if you look up any photos, the most awesome photo is the one from this part of the Great Wall. Why? This section of the Great Wall is the essence of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty. The ancient city walls, Cangsong, distant mountains, and mist are already a historical picture.
The Jiankou section is known for its ruggedness and wild beauty, and you will be in awe of the marvelous views it affords. As soon as we reach Jiankou, we will see a deserted watchtower that gives you a panoramic view of the entire valley. In the early morning, the look is priceless with its morning fog. This section of the wall is not well known by tourists, although if you see a picture of the Great Wall from exotic traveling magazines, chances are it is from Jiankou. It is the pinnacle of fascinating Great Wall scenery. This part of the wall is often empty so that you will have some peace and serenity on your hike today.
From Jiankou we will cross over onto Mutianyu, a section of the wall that has been largely restored. Mutianyu offers some breathtaking views of the valley and wall below. Not many people actually know about this part of the Great Wall (Mutianyu) as well as the other section and more populous section, Badaling, which is always like a swarm of bees around a beehive, it's a very busy area and there are just too many people there to truly take in your surroundings and enjoy your visit especially during peak time. Mutianyu is the perfect alternative if you are looking for a more of a peaceful experience. It is closer to Beijing than badaling is and maybe this is another reason you would choose this part. Mutianyu is known for its steep landscape and for its uniqueness.
Before we drive back to Beijing, we will stop by a Chinese restaurant to treat you a dinner with traditional stir fries and rice. If you are vegetarian, there is no problem. We will order special dishes for you. After which we will drop you at your hotel for the night.
