A three-day hike that will be sure to give you memories for a lifetime.
A challenging hike compared to the others, one fitted for the determined. We start at the Jiankou section, an increasingly popular section that is famed for its breathtaking ruins and picturesque mountain setting. We’ll make our way into Mutianyu. Mutianyu, which is mostly restored, is covered in watchtowers. The next day we’ll hike the Huanghuacheng-Xishuiyu trail, which possesses an underwater Great Wall section. We set off for Badaling, a section that many people know about, But the area we go is a distant, hidden secret that we bring you to experience and learn about the unrestored part where no crowds of people are present. We will finish at Shixiaguan, a fantastic fantasy view of the Great Wall, where it is known to be the most intact part of the wall.
We will leave at 9:30 am in the summer, and 8:00 am in winter from your hotel in Beijing to Jiankou.
This area is stunning and known for its white glow and its steepness. Known as 'Arrow Nock' in English as it features an arrow-shaped mountain. It was built in the Ming Dynasty era (1368 - 1644). Today The Great Wall at Jiankou retains its original appearance since its construction in 1368. It is known for its 'wildness' otherwise untouched, unrestored, and has all its history on display for you to see! One of the most notable features is its zigzags for 9.3 miles.
Not many people know about this part of the Great Wall (Mutianyu) as well as the other section and more populous section, Badaling. This is always like a swarm of bees around a beehive, it's a bustling area, and there are just too many people there to truly take in your surroundings and enjoy your visit especially during peak time. Mutianyu is the perfect alternative if you are looking for more of a peaceful experience. It is closer to Beijing than Badaling is, and maybe this is another reason you would choose this part. Mutianyu is known for its steep landscape and its uniqueness.
After hiking down or after taking the toboggan (slide) down which is truly fun,.
We will transfer to Huanghucheng to camp tonight on the Great Wall.

A wake-up call at 7:30 AM with breakfast, we will then continue our trek, this time from Huanhuacheng to Xishuiyu.
Huanghuacheng sits near a lake and a reservoir. The crescent-shaped reservoir is called Huanghuacheng Reservoir, while the name of the lake is Jintang.
It might not be the highest, longest, or most challenging stretch of wall, but Huanghuacheng’s water features create a variety of scenery, unlike any other section. It also hosts a perhaps unrivaled choice of activities. Besides walks on the somewhat tastefully restored portion, there is also a unique range of boat trips, including sightseeing cruises, rowing boats upon the Haoming Lake that the wall encircles. One of the best things about the Huanghuacheng Great Wall, it is mostly quite. Compared to other sections, this is a fantastic area of the Great Wall that is both unique and holds an exciting past.
We will drive back to Beijing this afternoon, full with a lifetime of memories.
Distance: 9 km

Accommodation: Camp at Huanghaucheng Great Wall

Early morning breakfast will be the first on the list before we drive to the Badaling Great Wall. A mix of both restored and unrestored sections. This is for hikers who like a challenge and the beaten off the path. You will visit the area without the crowds and get an up-close and personal adventure on the Wall.
Shixiaguan is set among the mountains in a glorious landscape. This section o the Wall is still remarkably intact and stable. Nevertheless, the Wall remains relatively untouched because of its strategic location. Shixiaguan Pass was initially built in the reign of Ming Emperor Wanli, which was about 1600AD. It is a crucial pass that was once protected by a large number of soldiers.
After another 2-3 hours of hiking, we’ll walk down the Great Wall to drive back into Beijing at about 5 -6 pm. You will be dropped off at your hotel.

We had the great pleasure of spending 3 days on the great wall with our guide Oliver Zhao. This 3 day adventure involved a series of hikes and one day sleeping on the wall. We were a private group of nine covering ages from 20 to over 50 and Oliver did a great job managing the rate of walking, the food, and even a couple of extra tourist activities for our diverse group. He did this with humour and non-stop energy, continually motivating the group to conquer the next set of steps or hill to see continually amazing views. The 3 days meant we saw very few other people and felt like we had the wall to ourselves - incredible. Oliver was so much fun, and so informative that we hired him to be our guide in Beijing after the walk. thanks Oliver!
