While the eastern portion of Simatai is closed for the Watertown Resort, the western half is still open to hikers. To ensure that more foreign travelers can see this beautiful portion of the Great Wall, we have priced at an incredibly affordable rate that is lower than other travel agencies. The wall from Jinshanling to Simatai has just slightly been restored, and its original appearance of more than 400 years old has been best preserved. Because it is full of challenges and with splendid and charming scenery, this section of the Great Wall has been the favorite destination of hiking lovers from all over the world.
Our representative will meet you at around 8 am. After 2.5 hours of driving, we will reach the Jinshanling and West Simatai Great Wall section.
The Wall gradually deteriorates along this section, making it quite challenging, but this is what makes this hike unique as you get to experience the untouched Great Wall dating back hundreds of years.
The Jinshanling Great Wall possesses an excellent opportunity to take in some fabulous views. Make sure to take your camera. You will not be disappointed! This part of the Great Wall has not been repaired since 1570. It is very remote, but it's what makes it so unique and a great chance to experience the nature and the wild parts of the Wall.
The Simatai West section called the Second Valley. It is also unrestored and is ruins. This part of the Wall is known as the real Great Wall as it hasn't been touched or refurbished, this brings you back in time to when it was first built! You will also get to see how the Wall was designed for practical purposes such as the defense against enemies and how the Great Wall was supposed to keep them out. There are 'obstacle-walls' built perpendicular to the parapets - a feature unique to the Second Valley part of Jinshanling Great Wall.
Before we head back to your hotel, we will stop off at a local farmer's restaurant for some food.
We did a full day walk in the Jinshaling area. Luis and the driver picked us up as planned at 7:30am from our hotel lobby. They were both very professional and went out of their way to ensure our experience was great! Luis spoken English was excellent and he was very knowledgeable about the section of Wall where we were walking! He took lots of photos of my husband and I as we travelled along this section of the Wall. The terrain is not easy and there’s are lots of steep sections and stairs. Luis ensured we were comfortable with the speed of our travels.
He asked if I had any preference for lunch and he rang the Restaurant to ensure it was mostly vegetarian dishes. We really enjoyed our time and were “ blown away” by the structure of the wall itself. They drove us through very heavy traffic to return us to our hotel. I didn’t realise that I’d left my sunglasses in the car, until I received a phone call from Luis informing me that the driver was in the lobby ( this was 4 hours after our return !!) what unbelievable service, my sunglasses returned:) - would highly recommend Luis and the driver who assisted us to have a brilliant day! Thanks too to GWA team for organising this trip for us!

There are many Great Walls to the north of Beijing, all of which were defensive fortresses that guarded the border at that time. They were built according to the terrain, and each segment has its own characteristics. Check our full list of day hikes, and sunset, sunrise hikes.
Jinshanling is 700 meters above sea level, and the mountains in the north look like mountains, and the Simatai Reservoir looks like a mirror in the east, and the Miyun Reservoir is sparkling in the south. The Great Wall relies on the mountains for its risks, and the ups and downs between the mountains and rivers are extremely magnificent. In particular, the enemy buildings here are dense, with exquisite structures and diverse forms. It is incomparable to the Great Wall in Badaling, Shanhaiguan, Jiayuguan and other places. It is one of the tourist attractions under development in the Great Wall. The Jinshanling Great Wall is winding and winding, with a wide field of vision, dense enemy buildings, and majestic. The Great Wall is surrounded by mountains and mountains, and the forest is vast. It is suitable for hiking and photography in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
