The Huangyaguan Great Wall retains several features. It is very firm and stable. With its walls and towers built on mountain ridge with an average altitude of 738 meters, the Huangyaguan is really inspiring.
In 1986 it was listed as a key relic’s protection target of Tianjin City. It was repaired for the first time in the Ming Dynasty and most recently in 1985. Huangya, means "yellow cliff". The pass takes this name from the yellowish hills and rocks nearby.
Huangyaguan Pass
The people of Tianjin spent three years repairing the main wall from Banlagang Mountain in the east to Wangmaoding Mountain in the west. They restored 20 terraces, the Huangya Water Gate and the Bagua Castle (the Eight Diagrams Castle). All of its defensive features are complete. Mostly military facilities and systems were involved in the repair process. Newly built in the area are Beiji Temple, the exhibition hall of famous couplets, the Great Wall Museum (the first museum along the Great Wall) and the Phoenix Fortress.
Taiping Mountain Stronghold
The stronghold is located in Xiaopingan Village. It is about 547 yards above sea level and controls the Chongshan Valley east of Huangyaguan Pass City. Another interesting fact is Qi Jiguang's stone statue and a tower were erected by twelve widows from this area.
Features of Huangyaguan Pass
Huangyaguan Great Wall is like a library of the Great Wall. The Huangyuan Great Wall is a patriotic education and national defense education base of Tianjin. With various forms of water towers presented along the walls, and the largest tower of the Great Wall "PhoenixTower" and the most unique "Baguaguan Castle". It possesses many features including:
Firm: Its walls were built on a mountain ridge! Imagine climbing a mountain ridge never mind building on it! This is an awe inspiring moment when taking in its construction. It also acts as the north entrance of Jinxian.
With a history of over 1400 years, the ancient walls were first built in Beiqi and are now fully restored today from Taiping Mountain Stronghold to Huangyaguan. However, when walking from Huangyaguan to Qianganjian through the famous "Sky Ladder," the Wall is completely unrestored.
Huangyaguan is also known as Xiaoyanmen Pass. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it is the only Guancheng in Jixian County. At an altitude of 300 meters, the cliffs on the east and west sides of the Guancheng are cut, the mountains are steep and majestic, and there is a tendency of "one man is at the gate and ten thousand is not open". The cliff is named Huangyaguan because it reflects thousands of golden lights when the cliff shines in the west. Guancheng consists of Zhengguan, Shuiguan, East and West, and Beacon Tower. Huangyaguan Great Wall tourist area includes Huangyaguan and Taipingzhai. Taipingzhai is famous for its various changes in the pier and platform of the Great Wall. There are stone blocks, bricks and wood, hollow, solid, square and round, and various forms.
